As a Dunwell Farm wedding photographer, it doesn’t get much better than this — yesterday Lisa and Matt got married on this working farm in Ugborough, with Dartmoor filling the horizon behind them, and a day full of the kind of personal touches that make a wedding actually feel like theirs.

Dunwell Farm sits in the South Hams, a proper working dairy, beef and sheep farm turned over for the weekend to a wooden barn ceremony, straw bales, festoon lights and a marquee in the field — with Dartmoor National Park as the backdrop the whole way through. It’s rustic in the way that actually means something, not styled to look that way.

Lisa and Matt arrived in a VW camper van, which set the tone for the whole day — relaxed, a bit different, entirely them. That carried through to the details: Lisa’s custom Converse, hand-embroidered for the day, were one of the best pairs of wedding shoes we’ve photographed in a long time…set off with “Wifey” socks! Space hoppers were everywhere, but football took over in the evening, with a makeshift goal made from a limbo bar, which also came into its own when used to recover footballs from the hedge!

The evening belonged to The Indie Killers, who had the barn on its feet from the first song. Some bands play a wedding. This one played a set list built for a dance floor that didn’t want to stop, and they took control – playing solos from the middle of the floor. It’s not often I see a dance floor so rammed!
