Deer Park Country House is one of East Devon’s most beautiful wedding venues — a stunning country house hotel set in the rolling hills near Honiton, surrounded by landscaped gardens, a walled kitchen garden and woodland that turns extraordinary shades of gold and amber in autumn. As a Deer Park Country House Devon wedding photographer, we always look forward to shooting here, and Joe and Emily’s November wedding gave us everything: perfect autumn colour, soft misty morning light and two people completely in love.

Joe and Emily’s morning preparations were split beautifully between the venue’s elegant interiors — all high ceilings, period features and warm candlelight — and the grounds outside. The walled garden in particular was stunning at this time of year, still holding onto its last burst of autumn colour, and gave us some of our favourite portrait backdrops of the entire season.

The ceremony was held in Deer Park’s beautiful function room, and the warmth in that space was something special. Joe and Emily are the kind of couple who make every person in the room feel completely at home, and it showed in every moment of their day. Documentary wedding photography thrives when couples are genuine and present, and these two were exactly that.

The couple portraits after the ceremony took us through the grounds as the November afternoon light turned golden and diffuse — one of those autumn light situations that photographers dream about.
