Tunnels Beaches in Ilfracombe, North Devon, is without question one of the most dramatic and unique wedding venues we have ever had the privilege of shooting at. Accessible only through hand-carved Victorian tunnels in the cliff face, this extraordinary private tidal beach sits at the foot of the Ilfracombe headland — and as a Tunnels Beaches Ilfracombe wedding photographer, we can honestly say there is nowhere else quite like it in the country.

Kelly and Rory’s morning began on the clifftop above the venue, with the North Devon coastline stretching out in both directions and the Bristol Channel below. Kelly got ready with her bridesmaids in a warm, relaxed atmosphere full of laughter and anticipation, while Rory and his groomsmen enjoyed the extraordinary setting. By the time everyone made their way down through the tunnels to the beach, the excitement was palpable.

The ceremony, held on the beach itself with the cliffs rising on either side and the Atlantic as a backdrop, was one of the most visually extraordinary we’ve ever photographed — but what made it truly special was the genuine emotion between Kelly and Rory. The setting amplified everything: the tears were bigger, the smiles were wider, and the moment they were pronounced married felt genuinely enormous.

Couple portraits around the beach, the rock pools and the clifftop above gave us an incredible range — from intimate and sheltered in the coves, to dramatic and wide on the headland. Kelly and Rory were completely natural throughout.
